Rugby Business School
Starting from my experience with Performanager, the managerial formation method developed for Viadana was set up in collaboration with work psychologists and experts in managerial formation. Resulting in a new method and a new Rugby Business School even more effective in shaping, training and motivating managers.
managerial formation
This new Rugby Business School is also open to individual managers and to companies or support associations of many Italian and international Clubs, based on the location and needs of the company. Our staff includes the Club and team players selected as a logistical base and on pitch gym to which coursework is added and each course is designed according to the specific needs of the client. The key factors for a course are as follows:
Emotions: rugby is an enjoyable game. The emotive aspect helps to reinforce formative messages.
Principles, rules, values: rugby is discipline and commitment. A two hundred year old tradition and culture that applies to any company, contributing to best realizing the mission.
Team Building: rugby is a team sport par excellence and lends itself perfectly to being adopted as a metaphor for competition, for team building and coaching. It is a team sport where the specialisation of roles reflects the sub-division of work inside a corporate organisation: no team can achieve results without all the components working together in synergy.
Rotating Leadership: the game is based on leadership seen as a rotating function that values the result rather than personal prestige. The result is always due to the team and the individual is at the service of the group so no one person is leader, as they all are leaders.
Management: rugby is a metaphor for the company dynamics, the players’ roles and duties are very similar to different functions in a company.

The Rugby Business School courses are theory-practical and consist of coursework and “on-pitch” practice. There are many risk-free game play simulations. Any physical differences (age, sex, physical conditions etc.,) are taken into consideration and roles are assigned according to different situations. When on-pitch, the participants are supervised by a qualified staff made up of experts in management, rugby, psychology and by professional rugby players and a team coach. The course alternates between on-pitch simulations and the classroom to compare the dynamics of play with managerial dynamics. The course structure consists of 1,2, or 3 days and includes the following fundamental stages:
Classroom: Introduction to rugby: History, rules and values
Pitch: Introduction to the game. Main player positions and set plays
Classroom: Q&A. Explanations
Pitch: Application of acquired know-how
Classroom: Team Building exercises, scrum and line in
Classroom and Pitch: Coaching exercises on leadership
Pitch and Classroom: from rugby to the company, strategies and tactics and video analysis
Pitch: Game on! An insightful match
Classroom: Feedback and de-briefing. Q&A. Comments
One last important consideration: Rugby Business School courses done in this way are proven not only to be extremely effective on a formative level, but also they are extraordinary funny. They exponential increase the enjoyment level and also the learning capabilities of the participants.
